Twitter Applications III

23 December, 2008

Another day with trying Twitter applications. I’ve been using TwitterFox for a while now and I am quite enthousiastic. It’s a small plug-in for Firefox that checks new tweets, @replies and direct messages and generates a small pop-up in the right bottom of the screen. This pop-up does distract a little but I don’t have to refresh my main Twitter window. In fact I can close that window. When the pop-up disappears a number appears next the the symbol ‘t’ that indicates the number of new tweets since I last checked. When a friend replies on an earlier tweet I cannot see on what tweet they respond though, the program is very basic. I like the three tabs it has to keep track of the difference between new tweets, @replies and direct messages. I use this at work and at home now.

This morning I could login on Twitterless, a service that keeps track of my followers. My new followers are on top of the list on Twitter but if I loose one I don’t know who. Also on this site I can divide tweets from people I follow. This looks very complicated though and I haven’t tried this yet. I did put all people from my class in one group and wait to see what happens.

When a user has still less than 3200 tweets it’s not too difficult to check the very first tweet, but why bother if there’s a service that does this for you? My First Tweet checks my history and finds my first tweet within seconds. The fun part is to check the oldest tweets of other users and find that they are all the same, interesting!

Then the site, Twitblogs where I can tweet and blog together, but what’s the use if I have this WordPress blog too? The service looks very basic but does combine my Twitter account with something more. I just play with it and wait to see what happens here.
