Master Thesis

After looking at Twitter from different perpsectives I want to have a closer look and use this phenomenon ‘twittering’ as a subject for my master thesis. There are multiple discourses, issues or keywords to look from at Twitter; privacy, social groups, panopticon, surveillance, remediation, aphorisms, quotes, spam. I also like to take a look at newspapers or the NS who have a Twitter account. Is the term micro in microblogging the right term? All these pojnts of view are to many to investigate all for this thesis, therefore I’ll read some of the following sources next week to get a better view of what I want to write about.

Deleuze, Gilles. ‘Postscript on Control Societies’ in Thomas Levin, Ursula Frohne and Peter Weibel (eds.), Ctrl Space: Rhetorics of Surveillance from Bentham to Big Brother, Cambridge, MA: MIT Press, 2002.

  1. Well well… I am interested in academic tweets. Especially as you seduced me into tweeting on twitter and I experience addictive behavior.

  2. Good luck with your thesis! I would be interested in seeing what you discover. As a library and information sciences student, I recently did a paper for class on how libraries are using twitter. It can be read on my blog or on the original class wiki I posted it to.

    Best wishes!

  3. Hi Hannah!
I’m working on a communication twesis (love that!) looking at gender differences and self-disclosure. I would love to hear more about your research. What tool(s) are you using for data capture? You may follow me on Twitter @SCourt
